Eminem
Bio
Marshall Bruce Mathers
III was born In Kansas City, Missouri on October 17th 1972.
Mathers spent his life as a child between Kansas and Detroit.
He started rapping at the age of four and participated in
battles in the lunchroom at school.
He started getting more serious about his
rapping as a teen and at the age of 17 he gave himself the name
M&M (which was later changed to Eminem).
He had trouble getting respect and followers
in the industry at first due to his race. His first album
called 'Infinite' sold under one thousand copies. Because
of the lack of respect from the industry toward the wrapper, he
had to do ongoing freestyle rap battles and radio
shows.
On Christmas day in 1995 his girlfriend Kim Scott gave
birth to their daughter Hailie Jade Scott in a very difficult
time financially for the couple. Mathers decided to hit the
underground rap scene very hard and entered the 1997 Rap
Olympics hoping to win a $1500 prize. He slipped up in his
freestyle and ended up winning second place but there was
something even bigger coming his way. Mathers was discovered by
Dr. Dre. They first produced 4 songs together and then
continued working on complete albums.
The first album became the Marshall Mathers LP and won 3
Grammies. It was the first rap album ever to be nominated
"Album of the Year" and sold over 8 million records in the
United States alone.
Eminem then stunned fans & critics when he shot
down all homophobic remarks by performing "Stan" with
Elton John.
Since this Eminem has made a number of successful albums,
nominated for awards and has even created a movie about the
freestyle underground rap life. We hope he continues to create
rap music in his own style.
